WELCOME to MyTeacherDave.com
In the Junior Cert. exam, the last section (Q17 or Q18) is what I like to call “Personal Paragraphs“. These are small paragraphs you write about yourself – usually about 4 sentences per paragraph.
A super-common topic in this question is FOOD – or even better, what foods you like or what you normally eat etc.
For the Leaving Cert., the topic of FOOD is also very important.
Let’s build our vocabulary of meals, types of food and how to express if we like something or not.
BREAKFAST LUNCH JUICE
I LIKE I DON’T LIKE
By the end of this page, you will be able to communicate and write about…
Meals of the Day
Verb Gustar ("to like")
Lots of Food Vocabulary
Let’s start with the different meals of the day. Why? Well, you don’t want to walk into a restaurant demanding you “dinner” at 8am or your “breakfast” at 8pm!
When you’re finished, pop the vocabulary into your NOTEBOOK!
1) In the activity, you only get:
– 5 different meals in pictures
– 4 names of different meals
2) Move the words to the correct image.
* TIP *
Some images have more than one option of words!
Ok, so now that you have the basic meals of the day under your belt, let’s learn a fundamental Spanish verb “GUSTAR“.
This is how we talk about “liking” or “disliking” something.
Imagine how many times in your life you could use this verb!
Watch this 1-minute video introduction to Spanish Fruit vocabulary.
Pay close attention to how we say “I like“.
Write in your libreta the examples you see in the video.
1) In the activity, you only get:
– 8 images of fruits
– 8 names of fruits
2) Move the words to the correct image.
When you’re finished, pop the vocabulary into your notebook!
ME GUSTA
So, you already know how to say the POSITIVE with Gustar.
“Me gusta la fruta.”
“María le gustan las fresas.”
NO ME GUSTA
To say the NEGATIVE with Gustar add “NO” before the PRONOUN …
“NO me gusta la fruta.”
“María NO le lgustan las fresas.”
Ok, so now that you have the basic meals of the day, how to use the verb “Gustar” and some basic fruit vocabulary under your belt, let’s go a little more specific and examine the most important meal of the day:
“EL DESAYAUNO”
1) In the activity, you only get:
– 8 different options for breakfast
– 8 names of different foods and drinks
2) Move the words to the correct image.
When you’re finished, pop the vocabulary into your libreta!
Ok, let’s go a little more specific and examine another super-important meal of the day:
“La Comida” – Lunch
1) In the activity, you only get:
– 7 different options for breakfast
– 7 names of different foods and drinks
2) Move the words to the correct image.
When you’re finished, pop the vocabulary into your notebook!

You can have a 30-MINUTE Zoom class with me completely free.
Firstly, we will meet each other!
You can explain what things about English are difficult or complicated for you. I will show you how I can help you to improve.

NO.
Not at all.
All materials are provided free of charge.
The only thing you need is a good internet connection, and a laptop or tablet.
I am a Doctor (PhD) of Linguistics with Spanish and English now, but I actually started Spanish as a hobby 18 years ago with zero idea of the language! I made all the mistakes, worked really hard, became an expert (a Doctor!) and developed the best ways to learn properly and retain what I learned.
As a teacher, I dedicate everything I do to show you how to improve, love the language and know what it’s like to be successful with it.
As one of my past students said:
“Dave gives so much time to your improvement and is really invested in your progress”. – Hannah Sharky.
