You can see three examples in the blue box below of what these verbs express in English.

Take your first steps to become an expert in Spanish verbs by learning…
Regular Verb Endings
Handy Time Expressions
Take Away Notes
The very first thing to learn is the 4-step process of working with Spanish verbs.
It doesn’t matter if we are talking about the past, present or future as it is like a “checklist” so you always complete the full process. It’s as easy as 1-2-3-4!
Watch this 1-minute video of the 4-step process of conjugating verbs in Spanish.
You will learn everything you need to know at this point.
The next quick thing we need to do is identify who we are talking about with these Spanish and English pronouns.
TIP = When you’re finished and have the right answers, pop the information down in your “libreta“.
OK, you’re ready to start working with Spanish Present Tense verbs!
It’s probably been a while since you’ve worked with Spanish verbs, so let’s go back to basics.
Read the instructions below for the activity…
1) In the activity, you get:
– a chart with the 3 categories of Spanish verbs
– 6 verbs that belong to one of the 3 categories
2) You have to move the verb to the correct category
In this section, you are going to put everything you’ve done into practice.
The topic is FOOD and a girl called Fiona is going to tell us all about what her and her family usually eat for breakfast. However, there is a slight problem, poor Fiona never learned her verbs so there are gaps you have to fill.
Let’s start with a super-basic vocab. matching activity – DRAG THE WORDS to the correct image.
1) Do sentences 1, 5 & 9 ONLY first.
2) CHECK your answers and record your score.
3) Watch the mini-video here.
4) Take notes of all the different endings.
5) Do all the sentences 1-10.
We are going to build our vocabulary of time expressions that are super common for the Present Tense.
When you have this activity up to 100%, make sure you pop this handy vocab. into your “libreta” (notebook).
¡FANTÁSTICO!
So, now you have a nice process of writing your verbs, some super-important pronouns, handy time expressions and you have also practiced using some regular verbs in sentences.
As you are an LC student who is going to be doing the Leaving Cert exam, let’s see how we actually practice with the listening part of the exam!
Below is Question 6 of the 2018 Exam all about El Tiempo (The Weather) – follow the instructions 1-5 carefully to improve.
1 – LISTEN to the audio
2 – ANSWER the questions
3 – RECORD your score
4 – DO vocab. activities
5 – REDO LISTENING to improve score
In the Oral Exam for the Leaving Cert., a very common topic is your school life (favourite subjects/teachers and what sports you play etc.). Often, the topic of “rules” is included, in terms of what you can or can’t do.
In this section, we’re going to now write complete sentences but first let’s get some core vocabulary and verbs under our belt by doing the activity below.
¡MUY BIEN!
Now, let’s put it all together. Imagine that Count Dracula was your Spanish teacher – you would be as good as gold in his class! You are going to write about all the things that NEVER happen in his class.
Read the instructions for this activity very carefully paying close attention to the SAMPLE given.
You have to follow exactly the structure of the sample sentence.
* TIP * – Think of WHO is doing the action – is it me, you, them, us etc.
1) In the activity, you only get:
– the person or people doing the action
– the verb in the infinitive
2) You have to make a complete sentence
3) You also need to use NUNCA (“never“) in each sentence.
You are given => los estudiantes/gritar
Anwser is => “Los estudiantes nunca gritan“.
To help with your studies, I have made a set of notes of the vocabulary for this listening.
I suggest you print these and store them in your Spanish folder for future revision.
